Casts of an Island (2024), curated by Nicos Chr. Pattichis, marked the inaugural exhibition of PSI Foundation, activating the historic Carob Warehouse in Limassol as a new cultural venue. Bringing together 43 artists and more than 120 works, the exhibition offered a wide-ranging overview of Cypriot contemporary art produced over the past decades.

Spanning painting, installation, sculpture, construction and video, the exhibition explored artistic responses to the island’s recent history and its broader geopolitical context. Many of the works reflected on the complex legacy of the past fifty years in Cyprus, including the lasting impact of the events of 1974 and the ongoing processes of memory, division, and reconciliation.

Drawing from works held largely in the collection of the non-profit organisation CYCO (Cyprus Contemporary Art Center), the exhibition presented a diverse constellation of artistic practices. Through transformations of archival material, reimagined everyday objects, and experimental spatial proposals, the participating artists engaged with questions of identity, historical memory, and the cultural landscape of the island.

The exhibition took its title from the monumental installation Casts of an Island (2024) by Socrates Socratous, whose work evokes the idea of the island as a series of imprints—traces of history, memory, and experience embedded in its landscape and collective consciousness.
